Charles Booker... Compositions

La Fiesta de San Antonio was commissioned by the Marshall High School Band of San Antonio, Texas to honor their Director of Bands, Rey Meza and his wife, Gloria. Mr. Meza retired at the end of the school year 2006-2007 after having taught grades five to twelve during his thirty-seven years in Texas public schools. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Southwestern University and a Master of Education from Southwest Texas State University. Mr. Meza is Past President of the International Bandmasters Fraternity Phi Beta Mu Alpha Chapter, Past TMEA Region 18 and 11 Chairman, and has served on UIL committees including the Sight-reading and Prescribed Music List Committees. In addition, he served as the UIL Music Executive Secretary of Region 11, and is a Past President of The Texas Bandmaster's Association.

La Fiesta de San Antonio consists of three sections that musically describe San Antonio, Texas. After the introduction, the first section represents La Villita the little village of San Antonio; the second section, El Paseo del Rio describes the romantic river walk along the San Antonio river. Finally, the third section, El Mercado, the market place, describes the fiery fiesta style music of the mariachi bands.
