April 23, 2010 Charles L. Booker, Jr. has been been selected to be this year's Composer/Conductor-In-Residence at Friends University in Wichita, Kanas, Nov 5th tthrough the 8th, 2010. The CCIR program is sponsored by Friends University Music Department, the Friends University Student Government Association, the Wichita Wind Ensembles, and Senseney Music, Inc.. A list of the past participants of the Composer/Conductor-In-Residence program reads like a who's who of prominent composers and conductors About the ensemblesFounded in 1991 by Dr. John W. Taylor, the Wichita Wind Ensembles (WWE) is an organization of concert bands including a professional group as well as ensembles for students auditioned from middle schools and high schools across south-central Kansas. The Intermediate Band is grades 7-9 and the Advanced Band is grades 9-12. Under the direction of Dr. John W. Taylor, these youth honors concert bands have won gold medals and grand championships at the International Music Festival, MusicFest Orlando, Festivals of Music, and the Heritage Festivals of Music The WWE Professional Band is an adult paid wind ensemble which is in it's 3rd season. The ensemble consists of approximately 50 musicians. The repertoire includes both traditional and new literature. Dr. John W. Taylor is Musical Director for the Professional Band. The Friends University Band (Whichita, Kansas) typically consists of about 55-60 accomplished
musicians. The Band has been selected to play at the Kansas Music Educators Association convention 4 times in the past 12 years.
