The Music of Charles L. Booker, Vol. 2
Composed in the summer and fall of 2005 for the South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble of Linwood, New Jersey, American Jubilee is a short concert overture for band in ABA form. With the exception of a short quote from our National Anthem, the piece contains only original melodies. The composer has strived to reflect the hard working and strongly religious character of the people of southern New Jersey past and present. The slow middle section is reflective and represents the passing years of settlement life. A contrapuntal section follows (with the National Anthem quote), and leads to the final triumphant theme and a lively, exciting coda.
